Owners of nine homes with energy saving features will display techniques such as the use of on-site materials for building, passive solar design, solar hot water heating, radiant floor heat, rainwater catchment, earth sheltering, photovoltaic and micro-hydro electricity generation, and passive food preservation systems.
It is a self-guided tour, and the homes are listed on a Google map, along with a very brief write up including owners' names and numbers, addresses, and energy saving features. Homes will be open for a specific two or three hour block within the overall 4 hour tour schedule, from 1pm to 5 pm. Times are listed on the write up of each home on the Google map (click on the blue dot on the map or on the listing in the column on the left). Careful planning and time allocation would be required to tour every home.
People planning to take the tour are encouraged to study the home features and the routes in order to fit in what they most want to see.
Tour map and information will also be available at the Information Booth at the Energy Fair on the Common.
